DAD'S ARMY MATCH REPORT

ROUND 1
ISC RAPTORS VS INGLE FARM
TRINITY GARDENS
SUNDAY, APRIL 22ND, 2007

Well well.. the inagrual game of Ingle Farm .. C2 Team.. Dads Army.. this team has more names than Warren Tredrea on the outer of a Crows home showdown match !!!

Eleven players showed their faces, Gerry McLaughlin didn't show after apparently locking himself in a cell at his workplace, but all the reliable lads keenly turned up.

Says here in my notes from my spy that Farm had more possession than ISC during the first half.. What is it with this club this year.. emphasis on possession ??? Give me a break.

So Farm looked "rusty" during the first half, it says "the cobwebs had to be shaken off." I can imagine that Peter "Captain Mouth" King was yelling at everyone while Steve Paterson kept quiet. Well thats happens in any game!

So 0-0 at halftime, and Peter King and Paul Simpson are playing well for Farm.

After 65 minutes, Darren Bancroft comes to life and scores the first ever goal for Ingle Farm C2's. What an honour. More Ingle Farm folklore has been written into its history.

10 minutes later Steve Paterson scores Farm's second, dunno how, notes a little thin.

By now Dads Army are on a roll. In the 77th minute Tan Nguyen gets into the goalscoring action, again, don't know how, but the boy scores his first ever Ingle Farm goal.

5 minutes later, Bancroft gets his second, giving Farm a 4-0 victory.

The lads celebrate, yet are shattered to discover there were no showers at the ground.

Says here in the notes that the best player on the ground that the best player on the pitch was the ISC Raptors keeper !!!!

A new nickname has emerged after the big away win. In Ingle Farm tradition, Farm keeper for the day Mark Preka will now be referred to as the "Albanian Cat" after his smashing game.

Final score: ISC Raptors 0 Ingle Farm 4.

C2 TEAM MATCH REPORT

ROUND 2
DADS ARMY vs BRAHMA LODGE
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2007

Ingle Farm's mighty C2 team had a resounding 4-0 home win over Brahma Lodge in blustery conditions at Walkley Park. The home team lead from start to finish and enjoyed a comfortable victory in the good-spirited match.

After the bleary-eyed referee turned up a minute or two late after being the victim of Australia's cricket world cup win, the match was quick to start. Farm captain Paul Simpson lost the toss and Farm kicked downhill in the first half.

In the opening seconds a fine cross from grey haired fullback Alan Leadbeater found fit-looking Steve Paterson who headed the ball home from close range. 1-0 to Farm.

Captain mouth was out there at it again, the little general making sure there was plenty of talk on the park while Simpson, Leadbeater, Adrian Plowman and Tan Nguyen combined well to form a formidable rock for a back four.

Daniel and Matty Marotti were the Dad's Army apprentices today. It is quite comical to see these younger lads do the running while certain older blokes do bugger all and abuse them for not running enough.

Youthful Darren Bancroft grabbed Farm's second goal after 15 minutes when his pace left him with space in the 18 before he clinically finished - beating the 60 year old goal keeper from 10 yards. 2-0.

Super coach Vinnie "Old man" Evans brought himself on midway into the first half and was kicked out of the game by the mean and nasty Brahma Lodge defence. Brahma's kicking of Vinnie was second to none as several times Evans hit the deck.

Chris Duncan ("Chris the Scottish Lad") had some good touches during the first half while Tan was also playing well. Farm keeper Colin Smith was rarely troubled and comfortably kept a clean sheet.

Lee Perkins, Peter King, Paul Simpson, Alan Leadbeater all had a good first half for Farm.

Halftime: Ingle Farm 2 Brahma Lodge 0.

Although initially starting with 11 men, Brahma began to lose players during the second half. One ducked off to work, one did the big hamstring and another off to church as it was 8 vs 11 by the end.

A fit looking Gerry McLaughlin entered the park for Farm 10 minutes into the second half for some much needed run against the eight or so 50 year olds. It was he who grabbed Farm's 3rd goal after 60 minutes. A good ball into the box saw McLaughlin volley home a superb goal from 3 and a half yards out. 3-0.

Peter King, who as usual had a very good game, with the mouth and ball, then scored the best goal of the game in the 65th minute. King took on a player of similar age and curled a perfect shot into the top corner from 22 yards that would have had Robbie Greenwood struggling to save. 4-0.

Everybody felt a bit sorry for Brahma Lodge during the closing minutes of the second half, but to their credit the visitors didn't give up and played some good football. It was a funny moment to see the Brahma boys belt the ball out to waste time toward the end.

The match was played in a gentleman-like manner, with few problems, a few giggles and laughs.

Best for Farm: Peter King, Paul Simpson, Alan Leadbeater.

Final score: Dad's Army 4 Brahma Lodge 0.

ROUND 3
ELIZABETH GROVE vs DADS ARMY
DAUNTSEY ROAD, ELIZABETH NORTH
SUNDAY, MAY 6TH, 2007

Ingle Farm's mighty C2 team had another big win as they shot to the top of Division 9 with a 7-1 away win against Elizabeth Grove today. Super coach Vinnie Evans reports..

A slow start to the game, but Farm were putting a lot of pressure on the Grove defence.

After 20 minutes we finally broke through and Intham opened our account. 1-0.

More pressure and once again we scored through Darren Bancroft. 2-0.

5 minutes later and Intham bagged his second. 3-0.

Halftime: Elizabeth Grove 0 Ingle Farm 3.

Second half and it was only a matter of time before we scored again, this time through Steve Paterson. 4-0.

Then tragedy struck the grove with a player having to go off injured - leaving them with 10 men to finish the game with.

Farm dominated from there on - goals came from 2 penalties - Darren Bancroft and Danny Marotti converting them while Chris Duncan netted an easy goal after some good work from team mates.

Grove did manage to get one back late on, Alan Leadbeater making a bad defensive error that cost me my clean sheet record in goal.

Best players: Danny Marotti, Alan Leadbeater, Paul Townsend and Peter King.

Final score: Elizabeth Grove 1, Ingle Farm 7.

C2 TEAM MATCH REPORT

ROUND 4
DADS ARMY vs PONTIAN EAGLES
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, MAY 13TH, 2007

Ingle Farm's C2 Team continued their good form with a hard-fought 3-2 home win over Pontian Eagles at Walkley Park today. Missing in action for the C2's today included Steve Paterson, Paul Simpson, Peter King, Gerry McLaughlin and Paul Townsend.

The match opened quite evenly, however these "C Team matches" tend to be very much influenced by who kicks down the slope at Farm's home ground. In the first half Pontian were aided to the southern end.

Pontian had the better of the first half. Forward pressure eventually paid dividends for the visitors after 20 minutes when they were awarded a "controversial penalty" when the Pontian striker was brought to the deck 6 yards out.

However the "Albanian Cat," Mark Preka pulled off a sensational save from the resulting spot kick, and the ball was cleared away by Farm's defence.

However Pontian soon got the goal that they deserved. Pontian number 9 Fawaz bundled the ball into the net giving the visitors the advantage after 30 minutes.

Farm's better players in the first half were Greg Ensor, debutante Johnny Costoglou, Adrian Plowman and the Albanian Cat.

Halftime: Ingle Farm 0 Pontian Eagles 1.

Now favoured by the slope, Farm immediately struck after the break. Pontian gave away a silly penalty when a defender pulled on Farm's Johnny Costoglou's shirt inside the 18 yard box after 2 minutes of the restart. Darren "I hate Belly" Bancroft coolly converted the spot kick drawing the two teams level once more. 1-1.

10 minutes later, terrific play from player/coach Vinnie Evans saw the little striker cleverly by-pass a Pontian defender before a precise finish from 15 yards gave Pontian keeper Arthur Tsanaistsidis little hope. 2-1 to Farm.

With 15 minutes remaining in the match, Darren "I hate Belly" Bancroft bobbed up again to head home Farm's third goal from a fine cross. 3-1 to Farm.

Supercoach Evans then wisely substituted himself off for Mr Bean with 10 minutes to go that nearly cost the home team their win.

Pontian hit back with 5 minutes remaining when striker Giannakeas struck from 6 yards to bring the score back to 3-2 - setting up a nervous final 5 minutes.

With their one man advantage, Pontian surged forward in search of their equalizer and came close on two occasions, one a missed timed shot, one a dubious penalty appeal.

However Pontian's left their run too late as the final whistle blew to end the game with a narrow win to Farm.

Best for Farm included Bancroft, Johnny Costoglou, Vinnie Evans, Intham Saisanavong, Adrian Plowman, Alan Leadbeater, Greg Ensor and the Albanian Cat.

Final Score: Ingle Farm 3 Pontian Eagles 2.

C2 TEAM MATCH REPORT

ROUND 5
MODBURY VISTA vs DADS ARMY
WYNN VALE
SUNDAY, MAY 20TH, 2007

The Farm ventured to windy Modbury Vista for what should have been an easy win, but with a few players out it wasn't going to be that.

After ten minutes Vista broke away down the right and put a cross into the near post only to find Brian Toomer's leg dangling in the wind to solidly put the ball into our own net. 1-0 to Vista.

Within five minutes Stevie “The Gun” Paterson comfortably equalized for Farm. 1-1.

Soon after Vinnie Evans cleverly broke the offside trap and ran through to score what could be said to be the goal of the year.

Just before half time, Vista broke down the right and sent in a cross six yards out from goal with the vista forward heading on goal that Farm goalkeeper Adrian Plowman well saved - however Plowman parried the ball to Lee Perkins who pounced on the opportunity and proceeded to put the ball into his own net.

Lee turned around to celebrate with his teammates - only to realize the goal was for the other team. For the rest of the game he could not stop apologizing to his team mates.

Half Time 2-2.

The second half started well for Farm, with many good runs made, but to no goals early after the restart.

Then "The Gun" was back in action with two goals in ten minutes to put Farm 4-2 up.

Vista started to attack for a five minute period and it paid off for them as they snatched their first real goal to make it 4-3.

With ten minutes to go, it was time for the Lee “I'm sorry” Perkins show. Lee made numerous runs at goal, and finally scored a late clincher from a well taken corner.

With Lee "sprinting" at half pace from the back lines, you could see the glimmer in his eyes that something special was going to happen, and it did.

Lee made his run into the box toward the front post and with the ball coming over at about head high Lee jumped with his eyes well and truly closed - that forced an error from Vista's keeper, the ball then knocked in.

After getting to his feet afterwards, he turned to realized he had scored and absolute cracking goal and only wished his eyes were open to see it.

Final Score: Modbury Vista 3 Ingle Farm 5.

Best players: Intham Saisanavong, Steve Paterson, Lee Perkins.

C2 TEAM MATCH REPORT

ROUND 6
DADS ARMY vs COVE
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, MAY 27TH, 2007

"DADS ARMY" entertained seasoned campaigners, The Cove, who travelled the 350km's to play us...

Nice hard first up game for someone who hasn't done anything for 6 months....

We had a team of 15, no idea if we lost anyone, so 4 on the interchangeable interchange bench, which wasn't big
enough to hold them all.. We were all ready for a 11:15 kickoff but our home town ref was running late as his car broke down at the Gepps Cross Hungry Jacks drive though.. so we eventually kicked off at 11:30!

Kicking down hill, with the wind and sun and crowd behind us (yes I say behind us as it was the Coves supporters sitting on the hill in front of the club rooms, we had no supporters). Leggy played in centre as he had to leave at half time, with coach Vinnie, and we looked to hold the ball up without threatening....

It was a very slow first half, the Cove never threatened our goals but we didn't either till around 30 mins when Dazza had a header cleared off the line, and another saved. Steve Pat also had a fine header saved, as we went in at half time 0-0.

Second half and up hill, with a few changes and more of the same. The game was all clogged up in the middle with neither team dominating. We had a lot of play on the flanks but could never get a descent cross in, and another couple of fine saves from the keeper kept the Cove in the game.

The Cove picked up their game and attacked with gusto, as we twice cleared the ball of our goal line, then a tame shot was spilt by Constable Smith and the Cove forward tapped in for an easy goal. 1-0 to Cove.

Heads dropped but we continued to attack and again was thwarted by the Cove keeper. Then with 10 seconds to go, Brian Toomer dived full length to stop the ball with his hand (was he trying for a penalty? wrong end though) and a penalty was awarded. Constable Smith pulled off a fine save and then the final whistle was blown.

Three points lost, as we clearly dominated for 70% and should have been 2 up by half time.

Best players (as I saw them) Johnny Miller and Dazza and thanks to Leggy for his half.

I have been unable to walk for 2 days now and now realise what a good pre season can do to your fitness... This week we travel to Munno Para, 2006 champs and currently 6-0 on the Division 9 table....  another hard game but a chance to revenge our humiliating 8-1 thrashing from last season.

Final score: Ingle Farm 0, Cove 1.

C2 TEAM MATCH REPORT

ROUND 7
MUNNO PARA vs DADS ARMY
MUNNO PARA
SUNDAY, JUNE 3rd, 2007

I am happy to report that "DADS ARMY" had a resounding away win over previously unbeaten Munno Para C1 today.

The win means Farm stay level on points at the top with Munno Para in Division 9.

The team went down 2-0 early in the game before Farm pulled a goal back just before the break.

Halftime: Munno Para 2 Ingle Farm 1.

After halftime, Farm took over.

Goals from Steve Paterson and Darren Bancroft saw the visitors shake off the home team with some determined play.

Lee Martindale was dropped back to cover a hole in the team today and did well by all reports, so much so that he made Leggy look good.

Paterson and Bancroft both ended with 2 each while Alan Leadbeater had a fine match at sweeper for Farm.

Goalkeeper Colin Smith played his final game in goal for the C2's today, before moving down to the South East for business pursuits in Mt Gambier next week.

Colin came to the club from Manchester United Supporters some 5 years ago, and was the mainstay 1st team keeper for the past 4, before retiring from 1st team duties at the ripe age of 42.

The club would like to thank Colin for his services over the years.

In his time at Farm, Colin collected two championship medals (Div 3 in 2004 and Div 2 last season) and is the only keeper to have done so at the club. He was a terrific club man, always good for a laugh and he will be well missed by everyone.

So good luck with your future plans Colin, and thankyou from everyone at the club.

Final score: Munno Para 2 Ingle Farm 4.

C2 TEAM MATCH REPORT

ROUND 8
DADS ARMY vs ADELAIDE VIKINGS
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JUNE 17th, 2007

DADS ARMY GO TOP AS THE VIKINGS FAIL TO DO ANY PILLAGING AT INGLE FARM
(When your playing a team called the Adelaide Vikings.. there are so many headings that I could have used...)

C2 entertained the Adelaide Vikings on a cold winters morning, with no rain. A squad of 14 turned up so coach Vinnie Evans elected not to play. Two cameo turn outs today, Paul Townsend playing his first game and Jamie McGowan playing a half. Simo was on the bench, but only the change room bench and elected to run the line due to a broken finger nail.

The Vikings kicked off with a howling wind down slope, and it really rocked their boat as they lost possession and 3 kicks later Steve Paterson's shot made us 1-0 after 45 seconds. 8 Farm players were yet to touch the ball!

They kicked off again, under high sail, and looked lost at sea, as we made it 2-0 after 10 minutes with a  Johhny cross/shot burning a hole in the net as he beat the keeper on the near post. We were all over the Vikings passing the ball around with ease and soon made it 3-0 after fine work up the left side and an easy finish for Steve Paterson.

The  Vikings rallied back and put some passes together and let loose a cannon from 25 yards out that produce a great  save from Richard Bales.

Just before half time, the Vikings beat our off side trap to get one on one with the keeper, and tucked it away for 3-1 scoreline at half time...

Oranges were had by all, as Leggy gave us the half time pep talk, while coach Vinnie sucked on another beer.

By now the crowd had swelled to over 20 as the A's and B's were also paying  home this week.. no sign of any dogs though! We kicked off down hill and again we had all the play but failed to score as most of our crosses went straight in to the keepers hands or the gum trees.

Again the Vikings sounded their horns and attacked us, and twice we were saved by great shutouts from keeper Richard Bales.

Then Jamie McGowan was introduced for Steve Paterson and we created more chances, but we killed more Koalas. Dazza beat 3 defenders and the keeper only to miss the empty net from 7 yards out, then Steve came back on and we  finally got our deserved 4th goal to kill the game off and make it 4-1.

Then with 10 minutes to go in the match, a through ball from Lee split the Viking defence that allowed Jamie McGowan to run onto and as it looked like a car crash in slow motion, he sliced the ball with the outside of his foot 2 milliseconds before the keeper got there to watch the ball sail over the keepers legs and spin spin spin into the net for 5-1.. The picture was Cantona'ish as he took the applauds from the crowd.

So a fine display from all today, no passengers, as we tore up the Vikings and had probably 75% of the play. Being Dads Army we still had a few players who were able to run all day, with little Johnny running havoc up the wing and pleasing all with his step overs, twin towers Dazza and Steve working like a pair of hookers at 21st and our solid defence, and not to mention Towners words of wisdom to fellow team-mates when bollocking them.

Now if only Belly knew how to ref and what was deemed as a foul throw.. at one stage they did 5 in a row and I was going to throw ours in with just one had to se how far we could push it...  that's life and Belly loves abuse any way.

Next week we travel North to play bottom Northern Utd, so we are expecting a shit load of goals and maybe one for yours truly.. till then.

NORTHERN UNITED vs DADS ARMY
ELIZABETH EAST
SUNDAY, JUNE 24th, 2007

Top-team Dads Army had little trouble in demolishing bottom-team Northern United 8-1 today.

Darren Bancroft, Steve Paterson and John Costoglou all got 2 goals each (Costoglou reportedly taking two of his 10 chances!!)

Paul Townsend and Edwin Bautista also both scored for the visitors.

There was no report submitted on the game

ROUND 10
DADS ARMY vs ISC RAPTORS
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JULY 1ST, 2007

The usual crowd stumbled into the change room for Dads Army game early Sunday morning.

A quick change and a slow slow warm up ..and it was time for kick off.

Big Bad Glenn was paid his enormous fee to referee this high quality game, and got it underway with Raptors kicking off.

Some great one touch football by the Farm saw the ball played wide to Dazza who spotted Steve Paterson in the centre - and proceeded to cross perfectly for Steve to finish clinically with a header 1-0 . (Well folks, looks like we got another Kanu on our hands here - Ed)

Raptors replied by pushing forward and Farm failed to clear the ball, where the Raptors striker pounced and scored. 1-1.

Farm midfielder Johnny Costa Zoo made a great run down the right wing hitting the cross hard low causing a deflection off one of the Raptors defenders and into the net 2-1.

Raptors again responded when Farm defenders failed to man up and a ball across the 18 yard box landed at the feet of a Raptors player - who coolly converted. 2-2.

Farm kicked off again and a through ball for Steve - who was seen to be RUNNING - converted with a nice chip. 3-2.

Steve Pat also converted twice more before Raptors again replied before half time before Big Bad Glenn whistled for half time.

Half time: 5-3 to Dads Army.

The crowd had left with Lenny, Pop, Ted and Ron all heading off to Salisbury Inter's ground, a few words by Leggy and Vinnie, it was time to get back on.

Adam Barnes - who was having a good game - was given a rest and super sub Gerry McLaughlin was on the park getting his boots dirty.

The back four hardly got tested in the second half. Towner was winning everything in the air - there was no way through for Raptors.

Farm had a large percentage of the play in the second half without any reward .

Big Bad Glenn had to have a few words "U OBVIOUSLY HAVENT SEEN ME B4 I'M THE LAW HERE" .."But ref" .."SHUT IT." Anyway Big Bad Glenn blows for full time 5-3.. DADS ARMY WINS AGAIN !!

My best Greg Ensor, Steve Paterson and Vinnie Evans.

PS - Rumour has it Drogba needs more game time to get his touch back.

PSS - Rumour has that normal ref Belly was out dancing and hurt his back, was it dancing or something more sinister.

PSSS - Where's Lee Perkins?

We have the hard questions ..who's got the answers?

C U NEXT WEEK.

C2 TEAM MATCH REPORT

ROUND 12
DADS ARMY vs ELIZABETH GROVE
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JULY 15th, 2007

".Sunday morning sure looks fine I've got scoring on my mind ".

Having last week off due to some huge natural disaster down at Brahma Lodge gives us old blokes time to recover for this weeks big game against the mighty Grove Peckers.

Vinnie was as organized as ever handing out kits while puffin on a smoke before out we go for a warm up and a quick chat.

We were missing a few key personnel but we also had a few players come back, Danny Marotti, Intham Saisanavong and Tan Nguyen.

Leaping Leon Hannessen was kind enough to ref for us today. Belly was not to be seen, I wonder if Leon had a hand in this so he could grab the huge financial reward that goes with the job.

Kick off and its a quicker grove team that gets on top early. Our passing is sloppy, we're 2nd to the ball and generally too old and slow.

The ball gets thru our back four and the Grove forward seizes the opportunity has a shot unfortunately keeper Mark “The Albanian Cat” Preka slips the wrong way and it's 1-0 to the Grove.

Kick off Farm. Passing improves and we settle down in the match. Ever consistent Greg Ensor works down the wing, beats a defender then crosses perfectly to Steve “Rowdy” Paterson who headers the ball past the keeper .1-1.

Kick off again and Farm start to get on top ,a great ball thru to Dazza, one on one, and he's cleaned up from behind. Penalty!!

This is where things get nasty. Dazza gets the ball booted at him, abused verbally, so he gives it back to Lovely Leon who decides he  needs  to cool down - sends Dazza and the larger than Belly defender off for ten minutes. PS I've never dived in my life Grove *

Anchor Vinnie steps up for the penalty and the keeper pulls off a good save. Leon blows for half time .

Half time talk ..and Vinnie fires up the troops. No oranges again.

Back on we go..The crowd has actually doubled since the start of the game.

Kick off and it's a tussle in the middle with Intham and Vinnie working hard, its end to end but Farm start to create more opportunities and Grove players start to tire.

Intham is unlucky not to put a couple away with some good runs up front. Young Johnny turns his ankle and limps off the park.

Then a fine move down the right sees Steve awarded a free kick and he puts the ball across the box were I'm free and finish clinically. 2-1 to Farm.

The Farm back four are again under pressure and nearly concede again but they hold sway, Adam Barnes, Paul Towner and Danny Marotti working hard.

Farm move forward again and win a corner. A bad corner by Dazza comes back out to him and he lobs it to the back post were Steve  is unmarked he brings the ball down on his chest and puts the ball away in the back of the grove net 3-1. Paterson 's 18th of the season.

Full time and Dads Army win again. We did make it hard for ourselves, but we got the result. Well down lads.

PS - Anyone seen Lee? .

PSS - Was that Drogba warming up on  the sidelines?

PSSS – Rowdy's 2 goals today put him 5 up on dazza but who cares ?

Gritty effort award today- Intham ,Greg and Danny.

Next week Pontian Eagles .See you there.

ROUND 13
PONTIAN EAGLES vs DADS ARMY
RIDLEY GROVE
SUNDAY, JULY 22nd, 2007

Sunday 22 July 2007 was supposed to be a nice bright sunny day but the Socceroos losing the night before and overcast conditions it turned out to be very bleak, and that's the way the dads army game went - bleak .

With a few changes in personnel, the team lineup changed again this week. JUMPIN JASON in goal looked as good as anyone this year.

Vinnie gets the team structure organized and off we go and the old boys are under a bit of pressure at the back but they hold back the Pontian attack.. its a see saw battle with the Pontian boys looking the better.

Then a thru ball to a Pontian forward who scores -blatantly offside- and the calls for offside are waved away by  the official who doesn't see the linesman flag up.1-0.

Vinnie fires up understandably so and abit of abuse flies between him and the official and he gets sent to the sidelines.. WHY? Back on he goes and this incident also fires up the Farm.. who go on the attack some fine moves up front see steve Rowdy lay ball cross the box 6 yards out Vinnie shoots and puts it over the bar dads army are coming back and as the whistle goes are unlucky not to have equalized.

Half time, and had we had some oranges I'm sure they would've been consumed. Leggy gives a half time rev up then Vinnie follows, back onto the park.

Kick off and its pretty even game with long shots from both teams going high or wide. Farm are on top now, then a thru ball sees a tussle for the ball racing into goal the Pontian forward getting there first and slots it past jumpin jason.2-0.

Pontian start to get on top now and a defensive error sees a turnover on the edge of the Farm box and the Pontian forward puts the ball in the back of the net.3-0.

Dads Army turn the ball over yet again, which sees the ball whipped across the box Pontian player unmarked puts the ball away.  4-0.

The Pontian coach and supporters are screaming for more goals but Farm hold out till full time.

Dads Army's biggest defeat this season sees them drop to third.

PS - We forgot a few basics this week boys are passing game was spasmodic and we were second to the ball, lets get back to form next week against Modbury Vista.

PSS - Where's Towner?

PSSS - Drogba got some game time this week and impressed on the right wing putting some great pressure on their back four well done.

Gritty effort award - Johnny Miller, Vinnie , Greg ,also Kingy for risking life and knee to come on in the second half. Disclaimer - You can agree with me or be wrong.

see you next week dazza.

by Darren Bancroft

Then I got another email from Powney.. this is as follows...

DADS ARMY travelled west to play fellow title challengers PONTIAN EAGLES

Players slowly tricked in as it looked like we may start with only 10. Dazza out with an injured back, as a result of watching Australia crash out of the Asian Cup, Towner was working on his tan in QLD, and no Barnsey... Special guest appearance by Neil Newman and Peter King who turned up in time for the 2nd half.

So we had the bare 12 and no keeper. Jason "I look great in Orange" volunteered (or was pushed) into going in goals, and that will be the only mention of Orange's for the rest of the report.

But I was back and so was Lee Perkins, after his 2 week stint with Nerds FC. The Eagles looked very fit and big as they warmed up like a reserve team, probably was 1/2 a reserve team.

As the sun shone over head, the Eagles kicked off, passing the ball around like they owned it, with flare and skill on the tiny soccer pitch.

Took 10 minutes before anyone realised we had no linesman, and as our travelling crowd consisted of 2, one of which was Dazza walking like he needed a "gopher" to get around in, we had no option but to give the flag to Darren "Bean" Brus...

So the game continued, hard tackles were the order of the day, until the Eagles scored around the 25 min mark, via an offside player, but as our lines man seemed to be putting his flag up and down as if he was waving an F18 onto an aircraft carrier, the ref said, get f@#$ed, goal stands.

We settled down and played some good soccer, but failed to put any shots on target, and probably had more of the ball until half time, especially with Danny running down the left wing, except for the times he was hacked down.

Getting the ball to Super Stevo's feet was our problem. So 0-1 at half time and not out of it by a long shot.

Half time chat and fags for those who needed them and off we went for round 2.

The Eagles hit us hard full of running and soon smashed one into the cross bar, but Jason said he had it covered.

On came Kingy and Neil to add some much needed height and speed into the midfield, as we started to look good, passing the ball around, until that final ball.

Then a breakaway and the Eagles forward beat the defender and tucked it past the approaching keeper 0-2.

Five minutes later it was 0-3 as a slip in defence left the keeper stranded one on one.

Heads down, but still we continued and played some good soccer, but just couldn't get any result.

One Steve Pat header was well saved and a few other shots blocked in the box, the Eagles defence were all over us.

Then 0-4 as a long ball was beaten to by the Eagles forward who then rounded the keeper. Game over as we trudged off.

We had a lot of the ball but failed in front of goals and gave away 2 of the 4 goals, and the ref gave them 1. 4-0 was not a fair result and hurts our goal difference, something to learn on for next week.

Solid games by Leggy, Danny, Greg and Lee, with an honorable mention for poor Jason Ogdon in goals who still did what he needed to when called upon.

The Eagles keeper hardly touched the ball, and he was a giant of a man, something Jason wishes to aspire to, McDonalds here he comes.

Special mention to young Liam who came out to watch his day today, lucky he had no idea what was going on out there.

COVE vs DADS ARMY
COVE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 5th, 2007

"NEWSFLASH - Gavin Powney and John Miller score in Dads Army fightback ".

After forever driving south, I finally arrived at the Cove Sporting Complex and then took another twenty minutes looking for a park. Into the changerooms and find out that the game wont kick off until after 12pm due to some junior football carnival being played on the soccer pitch.

finally they finish and onto the park we hobble, with Dads Army debutante Brendan Altus playing sweeper and Kingy, Towner in the middle we had plenty of experience, Vinnie started on the bench.

Kick off and the old (experience) Dads Army are on top creating several chances that included a thumping shot by Dazza (oh shit here we go.. Kanu mark III -Ed) which hit the crossbar (shouldve gone in bastard) and league top scorer Steve Pat having some nice turns and shooting only to see them go just wide.

The Cove defended well and a turnover in the middle of the park sees the Cove play the ball wide then a cross sees their forward convert 1-0.

Kick off and it seemed not to be Dads Army's day as the ball moves forward and some confusion at the back see's the Cove score again. 2-0.

Again Dads Army press forward with numerous corners but we just cant get one in the net. Cove again break and the bobbling shot seems to bounce underneath the Albanian Pussy 3-0.

Again Farm push the ball is pushed wide  to where good-looking Dazza crosses to Steve Pat at the far post who nods it into the net!!! GOAL for Dads Army 3-1.

Half time and we dont deserve oranges.

Vinnie fires up his old troops with an inspirational pep talk that Scotty would be in awe of.

And away we go again... Farm are  on top but its the Cove who break again and a thumping shot by the Cove forward is a blur as it fire past the Albanian Cat, 4-1.

Heads start to drop and we go forward again.. Dads Army is dominanting possession and eventually it starts to pay off with Steve Pat converting again with a nice turn / shot. 4-2.

The troops morale picks up and we are right on top with the Cove hardly getting past the half way line.

Farm work it down the right side a cross into the box sees the Cove defence clear the ball to the in-rushing Gavin Powney - who hits the shot sweetly.. straight into the Cove net 4-3.

The boys heads are up and the Cove are just smacking the ball long ,with Brendo cleaning up.

Vinnie comes on and adds some pace to the team , Farm win a corner and the ensuing scramble sees the ball put out for another corner.

The resulting corner ends with a goal mouth scrabble, and Johnny Miller hits the ball hard and low into the net GOAL!!!!!!!!!! 4-4 .

Kick off, we win the ball, and just as Kingy is about to thump the winner in from 40 yards out the ref blows for full time.. final score 4-4.

Great fight back from Dads Army unfortunately the Cove had five shots and scored four while Farm had majority of possession but couldnt score goals .. it's like that sometimes.

The Cove lads did well .

INGLE FARM vs FULHAM UNITED
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, AUGUST 12th, 2007

Ingle Farm C2 Team lost to Munno Para effectively handing the Division 9 title to Munno Para.

It was a disappointing day for the home team, who went behind midway into the 1st half through a splendid 20 yard volley.

Things got no better in the second half as the home team conceded another after 60 minutes - making it 2-0, before Farm's Darren Bancroft tripped on the ball after a good run in on goal and Steve Paterson hit the post from 15 yards.

Para rubbed salt into wounds with a third goal at the death, Para beat the offside trap and the striker calmly slotted the goal past Farm keeper Mark Preka. 3-0.

ROUND 18
DADS ARMY vs NORTHERN UNITED
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th, 2007

Dads Army had an easy win in its final match of the season - which actually ended a week before Farm's other three teams finished their leagues.

Darren Bancroft wrote his name all over the game with a four goal effort while Paul Townsend grabbed the other. Poor old Steve Paterson couldn't take a trick all game - but played well when he was on the park.

It was a relaxed match played in good spirit for the majority. Farm could have won by 10 if they tried..

Best players: Darren Bancroft, Greg Ensor, Paul Townsend and Peter King.

Final Score: Dads Army 5 Northern United 0.
