A TEAM REPORT
Ingle Farm 'outsmarted' Adelaide University when they defeated them 6-0 at Walkley Park today. Farm's new team is beginning to show many positive signs as the team gelled well and played some exciting soccer.
Again temperatures were warm, so the match was played in quarters.
Graham Elrick and Michael Francken were drafted into the squad for this game, both players started from the onset and will be better for the run with the 1st team.
Ingle Farm started the match positively when Anthony Ragazzo made a strong run forward in the opening minute, rounding the keeper, then undoing his good work by missing an open goal.
Pacy Brad Donovan created Farm's opening goal after 7 minutes. Donovan's fine run and cross found Ricky Simpson, who miskicked in front of goal where the rebound fell to Dave Ennis who made no mistake from close range. 1-0.
Ragazzo again made a fine run in the 10th minute - his accurate cross finding Ricky Simpson who fluffed a good chance from 10 yards.
In the 28th minute, Marty Lara took a 25 yard shot that sliced toward the top corner, however Uni's keeper made a fine fingertip save to touch the ball onto the top corner of the goal and away for a corner. Leon Hannessen also put in a terrific shot for the home team from 25 yards, and it took another good save by Uni's keeper to keep the score at 2-0.
Dave Ennis, Fernando Lara, Marty Lara, Leon Hannessen, Anthony Staltari, Anthony Ragazzo and Chris Ennis were amongst Farm's better players during the 1st half.
Half time: Ingle Farm 2 Adelaide Uni 0.
After the main break, Farm picked up from where it left off. Ragazzo's fine diagonal ball found ginger-haired Torsten Rutter, who ran on to the pass perfectly before steadying and placing the ball in the onion bag from an acute angle. 3-0 to Farm.
Ricky Simpson redeemed himself in the 60th minute after an indifferent 1st half by putting the ball through for Rutter who had got in behind the defence, clinically finishing from 20 yards. 4-0.
In the 76th minute Chris Ennis set up brother Dave for his hat trick. The big centre half boomed a free kick deep into the goalmouth, finding diminutive Dave Ennis who cleverly touched the ball into the net. 5-0.
With just 2 minutes remaining in the match, Rutter also got his hat trick. Marty Lara played the ball through for Rutter, who rounded the keeper and walked the ball over the line. 6-0.
Fine performance by Farm. Things are certainly falling into place for Head Coach Paul Simpson and assistant Alan Leadbeater. Simpson later said "It was a very pleasing result, everybody lifted their own tempo. There were some good individual performances (in the match.) Things are certainly coming together for us."
Simpson's best players: Marty Lara, Leon Hannessen & Fernando Lara.
Final score: Ingle Farm 6, Adelaide Uni 0.
B TEAM REPORT
Ingle Farm were held to a draw in the Reserves match against Adelaide Uni today. Farm did not take it's chances and were lucky not to lose after Uni hit the post late in the second half.
This match was also played in quarters - due to the heat.
Alby Lynn was dropped back to the Reserves to gain some fitness, while Robbie Greenwood was held back for Michael Francken to get some valuable 1st team experience for the upcoming season. Greenwood seemingly showed enough in his last match to earn his place as Farm's first choice for the upcoming season.
The match began with the Lynn brothers in tandem up front for Farm, Andy and Alby. The two tall strikers created several good chances but could not break the deadlock in the opening quarter for Farm.
Jarrad Rich's hard running set up many attacks in the opening quarter, the youngster's chasing back is a terrific attribute to his game. Anthony Martini was right on top of his opponent and Vahid Rahmani came into the match after a slow start.
I ducked home for my camera during the second quarter, when I arrived back at the club, news was that Jason Walker had scored for Farm. Seeing I didn't see the goal or believe it to be true, I asked Jason to write on how he scored.. it is as follows...
"After pushing tirelessly forward without getting the ball, Jason saw a corner & went up to put some pressure on the keeper. An in swinging ball from Jarrad Rich saw Jason take the keeper and centre half away from the play. A diving header just missed - but struck the centre half & went in for a goal." So we might assume it was a fluke? Well done to the Reserves fullback.
Jarrad Rich, Duy Tran, Andy Lynn, Anthony Martini, Jason Walker and Vahid Rahmani all enjoyed good first halves for Farm.
Half time: Ingle Farm 1 Adelaide Uni 0.
After the main break, Uni struck back. Alby Lynn's lazy pass on the last line of defence gifted the Uni striker a clear run in on goal with just the keeper to beat. Farm keeper Robbie Greenwood could do nothing to stop the Uni striker's finish. 1-1.
Big Andy Lynn continued to battle hard during the second half, while newcomer Dean Pietersen made a very impressive debut in the midfield. Jason Keep again played well in defence, while Duy Tran had to deal with a bout of cramp for the majority of the second half. Poor old Vahid got brought to the deck time and time again during the second half.
Mark Faulkner had the chance to regain the lead for Farm in the 70th minute, however the midfielder's soft strike resulted in the ball being cleared off the line by a Uni defender.
Uni then nearly stole the lead from a corner when their tall striker headed the ball onto the base of the far post and out for a goalkick.
Reserves coach Brian Toomer later lamented, "It was a good hard game, we probably should have won - we created more chances than they did. It was a good hit out for us and the game was played in good spirit."
Farm had several new faces playing in it's Reserves today, Toomer concluded that he was "Happy with our new recruits, and we look forward to next week's match against Modbury Vista."
Toomer's better players included Andy Lynn, Anthony Martini, Dean Pietersen, Vahid Rahmani and Jason Walker.
Final score: Ingle Farm Reserves 1, Adelaide Uni Reserves 1.
C TEAM REPORT
Well seeing Kanu has proved to be unreliable, I thought I would write a quick report for those wondering how the C Team match went.
Coach Dunstall did not take part in the game versus the Saturday Division 2 team, instead resided on the sidelines coaching his new look team.
The C Team lined up pretty standard, Chris "the Scottish lad" lined up in goal for the opening half, Lee Martindale and Brendan Fagan in the centre of defence, while the biggest surprise was one Neil Newman who started the match up front!
Uni opened the match well on top. Their impressive C Team showed skill and poise on the ball while Farm's scrappers fought to stay in the match. Just after the start, Brendan Fagan asked to be substituted, coz he was "stuffed, not fit enough." Farm's defence was working overtime early to keep the visitors out.
Some good enterprising runs were being made by big Josh McQueen for Farm up the left, leaving a trail of destruction behind him as he barrelled players out of the way. Edwin Bautista did some good things early in the match but had little or no support from teammates.
Kanu was brought on midway into the first half, seemingly creating some havoc up front, however he was later substituted, probably coz he was stuffed from the pack a day habit. Thought he was doing OK myself, heh, I'm no coach though.
Uni opened the scoring after 35 minutes when a free kick was awarded against Martindale, the resulting free kick finding their short number 11 who rose above Farm's defence to score with a fine header. 1-0.
Farm had their only chance of the first half when a free kick was awarded to them right on the edge of Uni's 18 yard box, directly in front. Josh McQueen completely sliced the free kick and it flew away for a goal kick, the ball narrowly avoiding the corner flag.
Halftime: Ingle Farm 0, Adelaide Uni 1.
After the break, Chris the Scottish lad came out of goals, and flamboyant Mark Preka went in.
Farm battled hard and tried to get back into the match. Notably, Danny and Matty Marotti stepped up early in the second half and did well to drive their team forward with some fine interplay. Farm probably enjoyed 10-15 minutes of being the better team early in the second half.
Tim Walker was the first to spit it at referee Belly after 55 minutes. The tireless midfielder was bundled over after disposing of the ball, unbeknown to the ref. Walker's veins popped out of his head as his fuse blew in the warm sultry conditions, the ref had apparently missed something. Nobody's perfect.
Yes the home team were becoming frustrated. Uni did not help the cause when they scored again 10 minutes later. A good move forward exposed Farm's defence, which were opened up for the umpteenth time, and the ball smacked into the net. 2-0.
But our gritty C Team fought back. After some more heated words to the poor old ref on how the game is played, this time from Chris the Scottish lad, the Marotti boys worked the ball forward eventually earning a corner. Edwin Bautista (I think from my hungovered memory) scored with a header to bring the score back to 1-2.
However if you thought I was suffering from a hangover, coach Dunstall had brought on Mr Bean, which pretty much killed off anymore attacking options for the home team as he was positioned up front with Edwin. I thought it was funny, but some others didn't, pleading with the coach to rethink his decision.
However Bean stayed, doing his usual bugger all, eventually losing the ball which lead to a third goal for Uni. Again their nifty number 11 scored a fine goal breaking the home team's spirit.
So 3-1 it finished to the visitors in an entertaining match.
Coach Dunstall was unavailable for comment after the match, think he had probably had too many bevvies, but he was smiling all afternoon. Must be the paint fumes??
Kanu only got offside once, apparently you can be offside in your own half of the ground now, much to the little man's disgust. Disappointingly Dunstall took Kanu off before I could catch him offside anymore.
Lee Martindale looks much fitter after not training all week, Brendan Fagan looked worse, and he WAS at training while Mark Preka proved himself to be a fine replacement keeper - pulling some fine saves off during the second half.
Chris, Timmy, Alex Bautista and Neil Newman all tried hard, but had little influence on the match.
The C Team badly missed Vinnie Evans and Coach Dunstall on the day.
We await where the C Team will be playing this weekend - looks like there may be a match against Florina if Vista don't want a game.. so watch the home page for details.
