NEW KEEPER STEALS SHOW
25 / 2 / 2007

Ingle Farm defeated impressive West Beach 2-1 at Walkley Park in its first big hit out today, however but for one player, the home team would have easily been beaten by 2 or 3 goals.

New Farm keeper Robbie Greenwood looms as Farm's biggest signing of the season - making several brilliant saves to deny Beach. It appears West Beach have recruited well this season, picking up several very good players to bolster their already strong squad.

The match was played in good spirit in the seething heat and IFASC wishes the Beach lads the best of luck in Division 2 this season.

TRIAL MATCH # 1
INGLE FARM vs WEST BEACH
WALKLEY PARK

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH, 2005

A TEAM REPORT

Ingle Farm held out West Beach 2-1 to win its first trial match of season 2007 today at Walkley Park. New keeper Robbie Greenwood starred in the win for Farm with some sizzling saves.

In dry, warm temperatures and on a hard, bumpy pitch, the two teams showed good skill as the midfields battled to gain the ascendancy early in the difficult conditions.

West Beach struck first after 15 minutes when a good move ended with a clever finish, the Beach striker heading the ball over Farm's stranded keeper from 10 yards. 1-0 to Beach.

Farm replied 10 minutes later when Peter Bria pressured his marker and cleverly squared the ball that found unmarked Dave Ennis who finished from 6 yards. 1-1.

The game was broken up into thirds due to the heat. Farm took advantage of the break to make several changes as coaches Paul Simpson and Alan Leadbeater tinkered with the line up in search of a winning formula. Returning Brad Donovan, Alby Lynn and Torsten Rutter were brought on.

Farm forced a goal in the second third as the ball was misjudged by the West Beach keeper and comically deflected over the keeper and into the Beach net. 2-1.

West Beach dominated the final third of the match. The visitors created countless chances but could not find a way past irrepressible Robbie Greenwood. The Farm keeper was sensational making 4-5 outstanding saves to keep Farm's lead in tact.

The Farm Head Coach was satisfied with his team's first hit out for the upcoming season. "It was a good first run out - some good things came out of it, however we have plenty of things we still need to work on."

Simpson's better players included Danny Smith and Dave Ennis, while Simpson's best player was Greenwood, who had "A very impressive first game."

B TEAM REPORT

Ingle Farm were far too good for West Beach in the Reserves - smashing the depleted visitors 6-0.

This match was also played in thirds - due to the heat.

Andy Lynn opened the scoring for Farm after a fine move forward, he then doubled Farm's lead minutes later.. 2-0 to Farm after the first third.

In the second third, Sean "The Gazelle" Robertson scored a tremendous goal from 20 yards as the brilliant young hopeful staked his claims for promotion into the first team. 3-0 to Farm.

Another exciting youngster, Jarrad Rich, scored the 4th for Farm as the home team began to run amok. Many chances were narrowly missed, notably a fine strike from Jason Walker from 20 yards.

The 5th was a comedy of errors for Beach's defence, who firstly failed to clear the ball from a corner and then a defender smacked the ball into the back of his own net. Great goal though. 5-0.

Frizzy haired newcomer, 22 year old Richard Dunn, scored his first goal for Ingle Farm when he impressively gathered the ball and cleverly finished from 9 yards. 6-0 to Farm.

Farm continued to dominate in the final third however the home team was unable to score as the heat possibly took its toll on all players.

Dominant performance from the Reserves, so much so that I couldn't recall Beach even having a shot on goal the whole match! The ball rarely left Beach's defensive half.

Won't Abdul be a terrific player for Farm after we teach him to pass. Signs look extremely good once again for Farm's Reserves.

Reserves coach Brian Toomer was pleased with his team's performance. "Excellent first up trial game, the lads carried on from where they left off last season. Our new players did well. Looking forward to the new season."

Toomer's better players included Vahid Rahmani, Sean Robertson, Jason Walker and Andy Lynn.

C TEAM REPORT - KANU's KORNER

This fine morning at the Farm, the Ingle Farm Gold took on the Ingle Farm White. What a big turn up on this fine summer's morning - 22 of us - unfortunately Belly decided to rock up and take over the referring role minutes prior to kick off.

Darren Drogba was all ready as always in his kit that he put on before he went to bed the night before. The young star has returned, Kanu Pereira playing his first game of the year hoping to steal the show. Again Jason Ogdon decided not to join in the game though decided to run the line.

The highlight of the game was the four coaches deciding to have a kick Simmo, Leggy, Scotty and the Toomer ..not realizing that soccer is way past their time. Unfortunately we didn't have any supplies of XXXL tops for Simmo so he had to settle for the XXL - which made it look like Skins.

FIRST HALF

Kicked off at approximately 11.05 with referee Belly having his first and only work out for the year. A few great runs made down the wings by Kanu unfortunately defended by the great Scot “Johnny Miller.” But the exceptional defending of Great Wall of Alex, Leggy and Simmo denied any chance of the White team testing the goal keeper.

About 30 minutes into the first half came the wonder goal from the ‘Twin Turbo.' A flick to Vinnie from Kanu was headed through for Twin, trying to get away from two defenders the cleverly placed it to the bottom right corner of the goal. 1-0 to the team in Gold.

Then with bout 2 minutes to go for the first half the white team were awarded a corner. Brendan Fagan stepped up into the penalty box and to his credit tapped the cross in for the goal. 1-1. By this time Belly was puffed out as he blew the half time whistle 2 minutes too early.

SECOND HALF

Coach Dunstall stepped up - trying on his new white boots, while Chris the Scottish boy put on the gloves in goals.

Both teams bumped up a level in the second half. Some great defending and attacking by both teams. Not long into the second half Danny - who wasn't marked - received a pass out side the 18 yard box firing home a great goal for the white team. Goal!!! 1-2.

With this goal the team in Gold started attacking with Kanu putting a great chance wide, a shot over the bar from Leggy and a couple from Vinnie and Twin. A great ball was put through for Kanu as he blitzed past the ageing Neil to go one-on-one with the keeper to score the equalizer. GOAL!!!!! 2-2. First game back for Kanu and he's got the goal he wanted. A new season…A new Kanu…

About 10 minutes to go Matty received a cross and chipped it over the keeper to put the white team back on the lead. 3-2!!!

Both teams kept attacking with one on one chances missed by both Brendan Fagan and in the dying seconds Kanu missed another. The game ended up 3-2 with the win going to the team in white. Great game lads.

Out come of game- Belly lost a couple kilos from his run today so well done to him.

Thankyou to cheeky Joachim "KANU" Pereira for the report. Geez talk yourself up you cheeky little shit!! Just for the record, this week's Kanu offside count was 6. Stay tuned.
