SALISBURY FLORINA vs INGLE FARM
UNDERDOWN PARK
SUNDAY, MAY 24, 2009
The Reserves match kicked off under overcast skies at Underdown Park this week with both teams on good form and looking to take three points from the match. Farm dominated most of the early play with several chances coming as soon as the five minute mark. Andy Lynn, Fernando Lara and Cameron Hawkins all watched as their efforts miss by narrow margins. It seemed that early on neither team had brought their feet so to speak with some dreadful passing and poor control from both sides.
It was however Florina who grabbed the first with their striker breaking through on goals and Farm's defenders stopping as the flag was raised however the flag was waved away and Florina strolled in with only Mickey Francken to beat netted the opener. Farm responded almost immediately going on the attack from the kick off and had it not been for some last line defending could have equalised through some great build up play from Marty Lara and a poor effort on goal by young Hawkins. Effort after effort on goals by Farm were frustratingly either put wide or just over for the next period of about 15 minutes with Boo and Fernando pressing down the wings they looked to have stretched Florina on several occasions but Farm seemed to lack that knockout punch.
With 15 minutes to go in the first half Farm hit back with their first through great holding pressure in the centre of midfield from Mark Faulkner, the ball bobbled to Marty Lara who played it through for Cameron to run onto and pinch the equaliser through a cool and calm finish. Unlike Farm, Florina couldn't bounce back from that equaliser and looked to be on the back foot almost waiting for halftime.
But Farm weren't finished yet and through a great tackle from the ever present Huey Tran and a quick one two between Boo and Lloyd the ball fell to Hawkins who sent Boo away with a high ball which was chased down with lightning pace and played to Andy Lynn on the head for Farm's second just before the whistle. Had it not been for two terrific Mike Francken saves in goals it could well have been level pegging at the break, the man between the sticks proving he is the best in the league.
The second half started in a very similar fashion to the first however had it not been for some tight defending from Paul Francken and Graham Elrich the game could have been on level terms. Farm lost Marty Lara to the A's soon into the second half being replaced by young Mark Bromley who was looking to impress and that he did showing quick feet and even quicker skills stepping several defenders and putting Fernando Lara through within minutes of coming on.
Farm continued to press and 20 minutes in were awarded with a corner as a result of another good period of passing play and a Mark Faulkner shot tipped wide. From the resulting corner Farm called on the Heavy artillery sending Graham and Lloyd up and with the ball cleared momentarily Lloyd drove home an edge of the box header with power, precision and a little bit of Wolverine aggression.
Florina continued to press pushing as much as they could forward and working hard to try to claw their way back but with little under 15 minutes to go Fernando was on the end of a poor Florina clearance to make it 4 – 1.
A special mention to young Jacob who came on in the dying stages of the game and never missed a beat helping starve off any Florina attacks with his pace and to Paul Francken and Huey Tran who managed to shut out Florina’s two attacking men. Good to see that the mastermind behind the games is finally getting the results deserved and getting reward from his teams! Congrats Billy.
Final score: Salisbury Florina 1 Ingle Farm 4.

ROUND 8
INGLE FARM vs FULHAM UTD
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, MAY 31, 2009
This week saw the arrival of Fulham United Soccer Club at Fairfax
Road, with our Reserves knowing that results pending we could go second
on the table and close in on top spot shaping up our title defence from
last year.
As with most reserves games we saw the return of
Wade Dingle From Para Hills and Jarrad Rich from the first team which
allowed Billy “Guus” Graves to give a couple of lads with knocks a
chance to have a rest and impact the game later. Also missing starting
midfielder Marty Lara, Cam Hawkins, Lloyd “Wolverine” Townsend and young
Mark Bromley were left on the bench watching a still very strong Farm
lineup.
The game kicked off with both sides having equal share
of the play but Farm seemed to be on the front foot early with Rich and
Dingle getting some good early touches up front.
Fulham seemed
to be lacking a playmaker in the middle with most attacks coming from
long balls by their defenders in the hope their strikers could hold it
up and wait for support or create something special.
Farm’s
defenders held very strong with solid performances from Duy Tran and
Graham Elrick being supported by another First team player Evan
Emmanuel and the ever present Paul Francken in what has to be one of the
strongest back lines in the league.
As the first half progressed,
Farm seemed to get stronger as a unit and started to show the same
potency in front of goals that has seen their success in recent weeks
with Wade seeing a long range effort hitting the crossbar and Fernando
Lara also peppering the Fulham goal.
But it was Jarrad Rich who
made the breakthrough with a well timed finish after a first touch that
took him away from the goal and made the angle seemingly impossible.
The
game didn’t have any fluidity to it whatsoever with patches of
good passing and movement marred by terrible touches, misplaced passing
and poor efforts on goal, in contrast defensively both teams tackling
and man marking were fantastic and that was shown with a 1-0 score line
at half time.
The second half began with the introduction of
Cam Hawkins and Lloyd Townsend who had been pacing up and down the
sidelines waiting for his opportunity to impact the game and that he did
with a brilliant ball through to Andy Lynn who had snuck forward away
from his central midfield role to win a corner. A role in which Andy had
been performing to perfection under the guidance of Mark Faulkner who’s
endless running and solid tackling work made it look like Fulham’s
midfielders were up having a Jayros rather than on the park.
From
the resulting corner Fulham’s defenders struggled to get the ball away
and Andy finding himself in the right position got a shot away only to
hit the arm of Fulham’s last man, and a penalty was awarded.
Hawkins stepped up to take the penalty and calmly placed the ball in the onion bag to make it 2-0.
Continued
work from Sean “Boo” Robertson and Fernando Lara saw Farm go forward
several times but couldn’t seem to deliver that third goal.
With
end to end play continuing it was Rich who broke away from his marker
and had a shot deflected by the keeper only for Hawkins to run in
and instinctively knock the ball over the line for his second of the
match even though the ball was looking goal bound anyway.
Fulham
seemed to catch their second wind after the third goal and as a result
of two consecutive corners were rightfully awarded a free kick on
the edge of the box which was clinically finished past Michael Francken
who hadn’t had much to do prior to that.
The closing stages saw
Robertson make way for young Mark Bromley who has shown great maturity
stepping up from the C’s and proving his ability with another solid
display.
Had it not been for another poor finish from Farm’s
front man Hawkins a perfectly timed Mark Faulkner through ball could
have completed his hat-trick in less than 40 minutes of football but the
marksman watched his effort sail well over the bar.
All in all
it was another great win again for the lads on Sunday, we are playing
consistently as a team now and we have shown great attitude and
focus after a tricky start to the year to put us right back in
contention.
Post match Billy was quoted saying "Keep up the good work and effort boys and you will be rewarded."
Final score: Ingle Farm Fulham Utd 1.

ROUND 9
INGLE FARM vs PARAFIELD GARDENS
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JUNE 21, 2009
Knowing
three points would surely take Ingle Farm to the top of the table preparation
was essential for the match against Parafield
Gardens and as soon as
you stepped into the change rooms you could see exactly how focused the Farm
side was. A good solid week on the training track was the start of Farm’s push
back to the top of the table.
With
both sides aware that there was much at stake it didn’t take long for the game
to get into gear and after only 4 minutes a pinpoint Lloyd Townsend cross point
Cam Hawkins through with little to do to flick the ball into the onion bag. But
as the saying goes you’re at your most vulnerable just after scoring and that’s
exactly what happened. After what can only be described as a complete shambles
by players and officials the ball was given a corner, then a goal kick then
just play on in a matter of 20 seconds, eventually it was cleared by Mick
Francken but a turnover saw Gardens push toward the Farm goal. Getting little
of the ball Andy Lynn made a challenge from behind and gave away a free kick 30
yards out. Mal Thomas stepped up and hit a sweetly timed free kick that never
got higher than the crossbar completely fooling Francken making it 1-1.
Farm
returned the favor a minute later with some fantastic build up play on the left
hand side and a quick one two between Townsend and Faulkner saw a though ball
passed to Hawkins who stepped his marker and fired a low hard shot into the
bottom corner to make it 2-1. But it almost seemed like Groundhog Day when a
poor tackle defensively allowed Gardens possession of the ball inside the
Farm’s box and Francken helpless to stop the far post shot. 2-2. An early
substitution saw Mark Bromley who had already run out a C team fixture make way
for Sean Robertson.
The
game turned from what looked to be an absolute classic to a scrappy affair with
both sides turning the all over and not really creating enough of a chance to
go ahead and had it not been for Hawkins’ inability to finish from the six yard
box Farm could have taken the lead in the 25th minute. Townsend with
another measured cross hit Hawkins on the feet and looked to be the elusive
triple the young striker has been searching for since his debut 7 games ago,
but it wasn’t to be. In the 40th minute Farm won a corner as a
result of some hard work by Jarrad Rich down the right hand side. After the
corner had broken down and Gardens were trying to clear the box Andy Lynn
picked the ball up and got it over to a charging Graham Elrick to snag the 5th
goal of the game.
At
half time both sides were left wondering where the intensity from the first 20
minutes had gone and how they were going to get it back.
After
the break both sides came out firing and not long in a change was made with
Lloyd Townsend carrying an injury was given a rest and Vahid Rahmani came on to
bolster the Ingle Farm midfield and allow Marty Lara some freedom to roam and
create. Neither team looked dangerous for most of the second half with Farm’s
defense led by Graham Elrick showing that they were not going to concede
anymore in this fixture. Paul Francken and the ever present “Huey” Tran backing
up the tall backline and pushing Farm forward at every opportunity.
With
10 to go Jarrad Rich made way for the impressive young Chris Brooker whose pace
immediately impacted the game breaking down the left hand side and stretching
the Gardens Defence while Robertson was causing just as much havoc on the
right. Brooker managed to pick the ball up in the attacking half and looked to
be through on goal when he was harshly brought down by Gardens defender Troy. A yellow card was
shown and a free kick awarded, with Vahid stepping up to have a dig.
Unfortunately the ball was poorly hit and went wide of the goal.
In
the closing stages Farm did well to hold the ball up in the corner of the park
to snag the win from Gardens and with news filtering through that Downs had lost to Florina it meant Farm sit on top of the
Premier Reserves Table.
Special
mention to Graham Elrick this week for his solid performance thoroughly
deserving his Man of the Match award.
Final Score: Ingle Farm 3 Parafield Gardens 2.

INGLE FARM vs ELIZABETH VALE
WALKLEY PARK
SUNDAY, JUNE 27, 2009
Elizabeth Downs made their way to
Walkley
Park, to face off in one of the toughest
rivalries in Sunday’s Premier B Competition. With top spot up for grabs Farm
new that not only was the win important for team morale and pride but it would
see them add some breathing space at the top of the table.
The game kicked off at a frantic pace and
as expected tackles were flying in all over the place and much for the referee
to do. The Downs were the first to push forward and for much of the first 10
minutes the ball was inside Farm’s defensive half with the outstanding backline
minus man marking Duy Tran under immense pressure. As a result the midfield
were forced back and there seemed to be no reprieve for the side with a goal
difference only second to Para Hills West. Downs were the first to strike with
another long range effort from a free kick catching Mick Francken off guard and
leaving him scrambling back only to push the ball onto the crossbar and into
his own net. The farmers to their credit continued to push through Jarrad Rich
and Cam Hawkins having good supply from Lara and Co. in the middle of the park.
After a solid build up involving Graham
Elrich and Mark Faulkner the ball was played to Rich to headed it down for
Hawkins to shoot but his half-volley was sent flying over the crossbar (A
chance certainly wasted by the Farm front man). In similar fashion to the way
that farm have been potent in front of goal the ball was moved up the left hand
side between Sean Robertson and Marty Lara and played across the box for
Hawkins to yet again run onto but the Striker was brought down and Farm awarded
a penalty. Jarrad Rich stepped up to slot home the spot kick making it 1-1.
In a close game chances were few and far
between with Downs having an array of shots on goal but the pressure being
applied by Elrich, Francken, Townsend and recalled Porter was enough to ensure
Mick watched most of them sail wide. Just before half time Townsend controlled
a far post corner, after turning his marker a hat-trick of times he blasted his
shot into the side netting.
Halftime saw a double substitution with
Faulkner who was already on a yellow card make way for Vahid’s return to the
reserves side and Captain Andy Lynn replace top scorer Hawkins.
The second half started with a much higher
tempo and better quality of football with the creativity of Vahid and the
experience of
Lynn
showing their worth. However it seemed as though the final ball through the
midfield was absent and as many times as Farm moved the ball around it seemed
to be shut down by a strong
Downs backline.
As the game wore on the
Downs
struggled to move forward and in an opposite effect to the first half it was
Farm camping just outside the
Downs defensive
box. An array of chances for the Farm in the dying stages saw Billy pull out
what was left of his curly blonde locks as he watched Fernando Lara break
through the backline only to play the ball straight to Big Azz. Sean
Robertson’s near post flick which ricocheted off the post was the closest of
the chances but the
Downs stood strong.
It was obvious the game was bound for a
draw when a series of passes from the defense through the midfield had Andy
Lynn in space on the edge of the box, but his pass across to Marty Lara was cut
out and another chance went begging.
More a case of two points lost then 1 point
earned in this one as the Farm must pick up their act if they are to move
themselves back to the top of the table. 1-1 in the end with plenty of points
to play for.
Final Score: Ingle Farm 1 Elizabeth Downs 1.

ROUND 18 PARAFIELD GARDENS vs INGLE FARM BRADMAN OVAL
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2009
With the league title on the line,
the Farm Reserves travelled to the Gardens knowing nothing less then three
points would seal there fate as league champions. The ambiance was certainly
mixed in the change room as players prepared in there own way before the game.
As per usual it was the Andy Lynn pre-match comedy show in the change room as he
tried to gee up the boys. The pre-match warm up was quiet, focused and intense
as well all went through what we had to do in the next 90 minutes.
After burning speeches from Anto,
Andy and Lloyd in the pre-game huddle you could see all 15 players were well and
truly focused. Nothing was going to stop us from claiming back to back
titles.
The Farm started off a little slow
as we settled into the game and found our feet on a much smaller pitch. The
Gardens we knocking the ball around well to there strikers and it was end to end
football for the first 15 minutes, then the game turned into the Anto show for
the next 25 as he turned the heat up and with that, buried the game and won
another title for the Farm Reserves.
A great Lloyd defensive header
clearance turned into a sensation through ball for Jarrod Rich as he powered on
towards goal, squaring the ball just in front of the keeper for Anto to tuck
into the net. 1-0.
Five minutes later a great ball down
the right wing saw Jarrod Rich fire a pin point bullet cross for Anto to spring
up and hit a bullet like header into the back of the net. 2-0, and the Farm was
well on top and on there way to victory. By this point of the game everyone had
settled and the defense was well and truly on top while the whole midfield was
working tirelessly to create chances for Andy and Jarrod up front. Boo and Mark
where having great games out wide as there pace was well and truly troubling the
Gardens, but it was the centre midfield on Faulkner, Lara and Anto that was
tearing them apart as they knocked pin point balls all over the park.
Goal number three came from some
good team play, Bromerly found space down the right wing, squared the ball to
Anto in the middle of the park who in turn switched the ball to Boo on the left
who squared it for Rich to fire home for his first of many goals for the game.
3-0.
In a stroke of luck from a corner, a
defensive clearance on the line from the Garden defender hit Anto on the shine
six yards out and the ball flew straight back through the defenders legs and
into the back of the net, 4-0 and Anto’s hatrick for the game.
But it was not over yet, as Andy
Lynn then had one of many moments of brilliance taking on 4 Garden defenders in
the box before cutting the ball back for Anto to smash his forth goal in 25
minutes and well and truly burry the game at 5-0. The Farm was running the
Gardens raggered as they struggled to keep up with the pace of the Farm, a
sensation half by every Farm player, every single one of them lead like
captains. The Farm would create a few more chances before half time with no add
to the scoreline.
At half time Billy sat the boys down
but had very little to say, the game was well and truly over and the title was
ours, two changes were made with Huey and
Cam
coming on.
The next 45 minutes continued on
from the first, but this time it would be the Jarrad Rich show. The Farm quickly
hit is straps and was using the wide players to open the game well, Elrick and
Lloyd were running the show out of the defense as they cleaned any Gardens
defensive kick outs and propelled the Farm back into attack. Some great work in
the middle saw Lara square the ball to Anto who tucked it wide for Jarrod to
cleverly curl around the keep from 18 yards out… 6-0.
The goal quickly settled the boys
and we pushed on. Some good work down the right wing by Jamie tapped off the
hatrick for Jarrod as the power home the squared ball into the back of the net…
7-0.
The rain came and went and with that
the pace of the game slowed as players started to preserve legs for the cup Semi
final. To the Gardens credit, the noticed the drop in concentration and started
to pick there game up, knocking a very good through ball to peg a goal back,
7-1.
Rich then capped off his forth goal
from good cross from the right wing to make it 8-1. Further chances would come
to
Lynn, Jamie, Lara,
Cam and Anto in the closing 15 minutes of the half but
they all failed to increase the score line and the game closed out at 8-1.
What a sensation effort by the boys,
a complete turn around from there performance 7 days earlier. Best on ground,
ALL players but a special mention has to go to Anto and Rich for scoring 4 goals
each.
Big thanks must go the Gardens
players for not turning the game into a kick feast and continued to try and
persevere the whole 90 minutes. The referee for the game was probably the best I
have seen all year, he silently controlled the game, let the game play and was
very fair to both sides.
As for the Farm, no doubt well
deserved League champions considering they sat second to bottom on one point
after the first 3 games of the season.
Congrates to Billy and all the boys
for winning back to back leagues. Lets hope they can continue it into the
cup.
